I’ve been wanting to blog about this since last week but i was amazed by how much everyone has blogged about the topic that I totally forgot to write about it myself.
Do you ever notice how time flies by so quickly when you enjoy the things you do - like working online? Yes? Now let me ask you: Can you still remember where you were or what were you doing ten years ago? Remember? Like most of us, we can barely give a straight answer to this question. Except maybe you still have a VHS copy that was taken ten years ago or maybe the only things you remember were the most unforgettable events that happened during that time. A decade ago, I was a struggling Visual Foxpro developer and my eldest son was just 2 years old. Now, onto the main topic. Read more
Google Chrome: Google’s New Web Browser
September 3, 2008
Yesterday, I got a comic book on my email sent by Google. It was about Google’s new open source browser called Google Chrome and the comic book outlined the technical details of the new browser.
Today, September 3, 2008 Google finally released a beta version of it’s open source browser. As I was expecting, it had a very simplistic design but a very powerful engine behind it and a lot of features. I’ve been an advocate of design simplicity and Google Chrome is what I’ve been wanting for web browsers to become - no menus and toolbars, just a screen full of web information on my laptop - talk about maximizing data space! Working Online: Freelancing
August 21, 2008
When I started looking for an alternative to my day job some two years ago, who wouldn’t have thought that I will find it online. I was a Visual Foxpro developer offline but I never had a training in HTML, PHP, MySQL, or any of those stuff. I started making money in my first week online but it wasn’t from blogging at all but rather from Freelancing - writing online courses for a client in the United States. It took me 3 days of surfing the Internet day and night (yes folks, day and night!) trying to find the best possible source of income that could earn me a decent amount of money quickly.
At first, I thought about blogging but blogging takes time and it might take a while before one can even start profiting from a blog site. Then I found 2 websites that offered Freelancing jobs, Scriptlance and GetaFreelancer so I took the freelancing route and it did pay the bills right away so I got hooked.
Internet Timeline

The internet is a global connection of networked computers providing public access to millions of resources. It is a system of interconnected networks that transmit data by routing units of information (packets) between networked devices (nodes) such as computers, cellular phones, personal digital assistants and other network appliances through data links which are publicly shared by many other nodes. The internet operates by passing on data using a common set of communication protocol suite known as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). TCP is a transport layer protocol that transfers packet of data reliably over the internet. Think of it as a bus that reliably transports a commuter to its destination. Internet Protocol (IP) is an internetworking protocol that transfers the packet of data to the different networks running on different low-level protocols. Think of it as a translator for the commuter.
The internet is mostly made up of thousands of smaller networks from government, commercial, academic, non-profit organizations, domestic, and individual units. The nodes from these individual networks communicate with each other and exchange information through various ways such interlinked websites, electronic mail, instant messaging system, and peer-to-peer file sharing system, to name a few. These distinct networks are connected using hardware devices called routers, which allows data traffic to flow back and forth between them. Routers guide traffic on the correct path across the internet to their destination using a unique uniform resource locator (URL) much like the traditional postman delivers the mail to its proper recipient.

Anything Can Happen On The Internet

Crime has always been an issue in this chaotic yet dangerous world we live in. Whether it’s a mugging, robbery, or rape, you will probably see it on the news at 11. Since the invention of the Internet, crime has reached a whole new level that everyone should clearly be aware of.
Internet crime is as vast and widespread as your cable modem will reach. Now that we have the ability to reach those who reside thousands of miles away with a simple click of a mouse, they certainly have the ability to reach us as well. Especially in the new millennium, we have seen an overwhelming rise in crime via the Internet. Since the Internet community consists of most of the world, we have to be especially wary of who we’re talking to.
Internet crime can consist of identity theft, which is a profound problem with our compact, high-speed buddies we hold so dear on our laps. Twenty years ago we’d never thought that someone could enter our homes or bank accounts via a personal computer. However, with new technology, comes new problems.
My wife had a personal bout with identity theft when she discovered a 250-dollar charge to her bank account for a cell phone service. How did this get there? Who knows! The bank was kind enough to eliminate the charge, but had no idea where or who it came from. That’s scary! If we actually think about it, we render our personal information to strangers on a daily basis. With credit cards in the mall or checks in the grocery store, we do provide some of the public with an access to our money. Unfortunately now, the Internet is a vulnerable cyberspace of personal data. How many of us make transactions online or bank from our home computer?
On a more severe note, Internet crime stretches beyond our bank accounts and IDs. Our children are at risk every time they log onto a world wide web of strangers and predators, anxious to dupe a child into their vicious clutches. As a world of Internet surfers, we have to pay special attention to whom we converse with in an unpredictable cyberspace. Furthermore, when and where our children log on, and who they chat with. While we need and love computers and the Internet because of its handiness, we have to proceed with caution.
What should we all watch out for these days? The villains of modern times are so inconspicuous. When we see most of them on the news, they typically turn out to be those individuals we trusted. I’m talking about the gym coaches, school teachers, and local bankers. What is the world coming to? Well, regardless of our current dilemma with crime, there is certainly a modern form of technology that’s granting these monsters with more options. Yes, I’m talking about the Internet. Although I personally love cyberspace because of all its wonders, it unfortunately aids the bad guys as well. This is why Internet crime is becoming more and more prominent in recent years.
