Large companies with access to a hefty amount of spending can quickly find cheaper alternatives to run the business but for struggling entrepreneurs, it’s a different story.

Blog Tutorial: Selecting a Topic or Niche For Your Blog
September 2, 2008
Different people choose different approaches in selecting their niches. A lot of the successful bloggers I know that I have been following all have their own unique way of selecting what niche to blog. Since I am taking this tutorial in two different perspectives – one for monetizing your blog later on and the other one for plain hobbyist who would simply want to put up a blog plain and simple, I am going to post some links here for you to read and follow at your own pace.
If you are blogging for profit (or at least would want to later on), here are some good readings posted on some of the blog sites that I’ve come across with:
Australian Darren Rowse has written a good article about choosing a niche topic for your blog and you can read that on his website problogger.com.
A simple three-step method on choosing the right blog niche including the characteristics of an ideal blog niche and a bit more advance topic regarding Google Adwords and the Adwords Keyword Tool was written by Maki who is a student from Toronto, Canada on his blog site doshdos.com. (Also I’d say he must be a fan of Animé.)
If you prefer to read a more in-depth article about choosing a niche for your blog, George Manty has written a nice article entitled “7 Steps to Choose a Niche for your Blog” on his website CanIMakeBigMoneyOnline.com.
Finally, I’ve recently written about a good product that I came across with and it’s called Micro Niche Finder. It is one of the best keyword and niche research tools on the market and you can read that post here. Go ahead and have a look.
In the next tutorial, I will teach you how to search for a hosting provider and how to set up your website using ftp. We will also take a look at setting up a blog using free hosted services like blogger.com.
Blogging Tutorial: Introduction
August 29, 2008
This is the first of a series of tutorials that deals with blogging. In this series, I will be posting step-by-step tutorials that deals entirely with blogging with a beginner in mind - from choosing a blog platform, setting up a free blog site to writing and publishing your first blog article. Then we will discuss more advance topics such as installing a blog on a hosted domain, cPanel (don’t panic, I will also teach you what cPanel is), server configurations, creating databases, installing and changing themes, plugins, widgets, promoting your site and everything in between.
However, I will not be dealing with the more obvious topics such as the definition of blog and other blog terms and terminologies since I am assuming that you came to this site with knowledge of what a blog is and only interested on how to set up a blog website step by step. Call this “A Blog Guide for Dummies.”
